Connecting Your Podcast Equipment

Connecting Podcast EquipmentToday I show you my “podcast table” where I have my microphone arm, my mixer, my microphone, my DBX 286A all on a table that I can move to any room to record. If you have a quiet room, you can think about the Audio Technica 2020 or the Audio Technica 3035, if you will be battling some noise, you might consider the Sure SM58 microphone. I have a very noisy hard drive, so I’m using the Zoom H4 portable recorder. The key piece of equipment is the pop filter.

The key is to plug the output from one piece of equipment into the input of the next piece in line. Typically its microphone, mixer, and then into the unit that you are using to record the show. If you are using a computer to record, I used the tape out of the mixer and put it into the line input of the computer. If you are using the portable recorder, you can use the main outputs of the mixer and send them into the main inputs.

My favorite places to purchase podcasting gear is BSW (as they carry EVERYTHING) and Same Day Music as they do not charge tax (unless you live in New Jersey).
