Are USB Devices That Much Quieter?

Blue Icicle
Play

Today we go in search of the answer, “Are USB device really that much quieter? Well in the case plugging my mixer into the microphone in jack of my computer I would say yes. When I compared the sound of a Blue Microphones Icicle XLR to USB Mic Converter/Mic Preamp to that of the sound of going into the Roland R-05 WAVE/MP3 Recorder I would call it a tie. In both cases if you sit in a quiet room with headphones you may detect a difference. To me, I just want to laugh as we are talking about the level of silence.  I do like the convenience of the Blue Icicle and if you are a solo podcaster, its a definite option (I am working with their tech support as I can monitor what I’m recording, but I don’t care because its just me).

The answer again, USB is quieter than the microphone input of the computer. Is it that much quieter? I would say yes as the small amount of noise that does come through that input is really  annoying.

Marcy Rosenbaum Comments on her First Podcast Episode

Marcy is a client of mine (she just launched the Livelihood Show), and in talking with she revealed how good it felt to get the podcast of the ground. She didn’t think she could do it, she had spent a year researching and after contacting me she had a podcast up and going in two weeks. Marcy is a business consultant with a a wide range of experiences and she lists this as one of her greatest professional satisfactions. She stated, “It just seemed so simple.” She stated, “I knew I couldn’t this, but it was Dave’s confidence that got us through that first episode, and now I have the confidence to do the rest.” Check out Marcy’s show at www.livelihoodshow.com

    Alex,
Unfortunately, I am the king of typos. Thanks so much for pointing this out. I’m always looking to improve.

To me Dave Jackson IS the School of Podcasting, and having access to him and going to the roundtables and being able to see his computer so I can see exactly how to do something is well worth the price. The time, energy, and frustration I save well worth it the price I pay.
