70% of podcasts are discovered via word of mouth (Jacobs Media). So if we can understand what makes someone recommend something, we can start to do that in our show.
We heard words like affordable, quality, and unique. Some people recommend based on a relationship that delivers value. When you deliver something you can't get any place

What Makes Something Recommendable?
When I listened to the audience's answers, I heard topics that, when applied to podcasting, might mean:
Unique
When your show is not like every other podcast, you stand out. This is hard to do, but if you can, it gives people a reason to listen.
Solves A Problem
When your content solves the issue the audience is looking for, if those listeners know someone with the same issue, they will refer to your show.
Quality
We heard people mention quality. If I were to tie this into podcasting, I would first tie it to audio quality. Even if you're doing video, one of the most important items is audio quality. This doesn't mean you mean to spend thousands of dollars, but you can't use your built-in microphone inside your laptop.
This also means the quality of CONTENT. It doesn't do any good if your audio sounds amazing, but your content is nonsense or fails to deliver value to the audience.
Relationships
One person mentioned how a car dealer helps them before and after the sale. For me, this means following up on a regular basis with guests after the interview. I use software called Less Annoying CRM (real name), which is amazing for follow-ups and costs less than $20 a month. When you have that relationship, when someone asks your former guest “Do you know anybody who…” they can recommend you as you have kept your skillset in the top of mind.
If You Don't Ask, You Don't Get
Whether you're just starting out or a seasoned veteran, one call to action could be “tell a friend to go to my website and follow the show.”
